Buenos Aires, May 24 (Prensa Latina) Argentine Foreign Minister Hector Timerman will travel next week to Russia and Kazakhstan to strengthen cooperation with the two countries, official sources reported here.
According to the Foreign Ministry, Timerman will meet on May 28 with his Russian peer, Sergei Lavrov, to promote the development of bilateral strategic cooperation.
The purpose of the meeting is to strengthen political and economic dialogue and addressing various issues of relevance in the bilateral and multilateral agenda.
A note from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs states that “considering the importance Argentina gives to disarmament and non-proliferation, both foreign ministers will sign a joint declaration in this matter”.
Timerman, who will be accompanied by Minister of International Economic Relations, will hold meetings related to economic and trade cooperation.
The trip to Moscow was announced days after the Indian Ambassador in Argentina, Amarenda Khatua, said his country, Brazil and South Africa, three members of the block called BRICS integrated also by Russia and China are interested in adding Argentina to this group of emerging nations.
However, the ministerial note does not refer to that particular topic.
After visiting Russia, Timerman will travel to Kazakhstan on Thursday 29 and Friday 30, at the invitation of his Kazakh counterpart, Erlan Idrissov, in what will be the first visit by a foreign minister to this Eurasian country.
During the meeting be held with Idrissov, they will address topics aim at strengthening the bilateral relationship, including economic, political, South-South Cooperation, and academics issues.
An important step will be the signing of an agreement on visa waiver, according to the official note.
In trade, it is expected that the Minister of International Economic Relations will hold meetings with leading Kazakh entities engaged in trade promotion and investment.
Both Russia and Kazakhstan give priority to the Program for Enhance and Diversify Exports.
The objective of this program is to improve in quality and quantity Argentine exports by increase traditional exports, contributing to the export development of regional economies and increasing the number of exporting companies.
